I bought this hot plate to roast coffee beans. Due to the smoke produced, this must have taken place outside. I have been using a heat gun to roast the beans in a heavy copper bottom saucepan, but it takes a long time to heat the pan, and it never gets as hot as I want. This hot plate has 5 heat settings marked on the dial and some marks in between. I let it heat #1 for 15 minutes to burn off any smells. The burner’s temperature was then more than 600 degrees, according to my infrared thermometer. I was skeptical of this. When I roasted coffee, I set the saucepan on the burner and turned it up gradually to 5. This resulted in a max pan temp of 280 degrees Fahrenheit. Roasting with the heat gun then proceeded much quicker than before. Time will tell if this is an improvement.

The only bad thing I found was a sticker warning that it would get hot. The adhesive was very strong, and it required a lot of work with a plastic spatula to remove. Orange oil removed the residue. It looks better now, like the picture.
